Terms of Service
Effective May 8, 2026. Last updated May 8, 2026. By using PlayerFocus, you agree to these terms.
Plain-language summary at the top of every section. The legal text follows. For procurement-grade documents (DPA, MSA, signed acknowledgement), email legal@playerfocus.ca.
1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form a binding agreement between you and the company doing business as PlayerFocus, registered in British Columbia, Canada (“PlayerFocus”, “we”, “us”, “our”). By creating an account, accepting an invitation, signing up directly, verifying a player as a coach, or otherwise using the platform, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. Eligibility
- You must be 13 years of age or older to create an account directly.
- If a profile is for a child under 13, the account must be created and managed by the child’s parent or legal guardian. By proceeding, the parent attests they have the authority to consent on the child’s behalf and have read the Privacy Policy.
- If you access PlayerFocus through a club or academy, your right to use the service is also subject to that organization’s arrangement with us.
- You may only use PlayerFocus in accordance with applicable law and these Terms.
3. Account types
PlayerFocus supports several account types, each with their own permissions:
- Director — manages an academy or club, including teams, coaches, players, and billing.
- Coach — invited by a director to evaluate players and write reports.
- Parent — receives weekly reports and manages settings for their linked children.
- Player (self-signup) — a player aged 13+ who creates and manages their own profile, or a parent who creates a profile for a child under 13.
- Verifying Coach — a coach who creates a free account specifically to verify a player’s Resume.
4. Your account and security
You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for everything that happens under your account. Don’t share credentials. If you suspect unauthorized access, contact security@playerfocus.ca immediately. We may require additional verification before acting on requests that affect a child’s data or a club’s subscription.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use PlayerFocus for anything illegal, harmful, harassing, defamatory, or discriminatory.
- Attempt to access accounts, data, or systems belonging to other users or clubs.
- Upload content that infringes intellectual property rights, privacy rights, or rights of publicity.
- Impersonate another person, club, coach, parent, or player.
- Submit data about a child without the appropriate consent (yours, if you are the parent or guardian; or the consent obtained by the club through which the child appears in PlayerFocus).
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract data from PlayerFocus beyond what we explicitly enable.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive source code or trade secrets.
- Interfere with the service’s operation (denial-of-service, abuse of rate limits, attempts to bypass security).
- Use PlayerFocus or its data to build, train, or improve a competing product or service.
- Use PlayerFocus to make decisions about a child that should be made by qualified professionals (medical, legal, educational, mental health).
6. Public Profiles (Resumes)
PlayerFocus offers each player a free, shareable Resume at a public URL of the form playerfocus.ca/p/{slug} or playerfocus.ca/r/{slug}.
- Default visibility is public. The URL can be opened by anyone with the link, indexed by search engines, surfaced by AI assistants, and previewed in messaging or social apps. By creating or maintaining a Resume, you consent to this default.
- You can make a Resume private or delete it at any time by emailing privacy@playerfocus.ca. We will action the request promptly and follow up with search engines for cache removal where possible.
- Photos and right of publicity. If a Resume includes a photo, the parent (for a child under 13) or the player (13+) is responsible for confirming they have the right to upload and publicly display that photo. If a photo is uploaded that we are notified is unauthorized, we will remove it promptly.
- Cross-academy continuity. A player’s Resume aggregates evaluations from every academy that has used PlayerFocus to evaluate them. By using PlayerFocus, you understand and agree that evaluations remain on the Resume after a player switches academies, subject to the deletion and correction rights described in our Privacy Policy.
- Takedown. If you believe a Resume infringes your rights or contains inaccurate or unauthorized information, see Section 14 (Takedown / DMCA).
7. Coach verification
A coach who has worked with a player may “verify” the player’s Resume — adding a public “Verified by Coach X” badge. By verifying:
- You confirm that you actually coached the player, in the role and during the period you indicate.
- You agree that your name (and team, if provided) will appear publicly on the Resume.
- You acknowledge that knowingly false verification is a misuse of the platform and may result in immediate termination of your account and removal of the badge.
- You retain the right to revoke your verification at any time.
8. Content ownership and licenses
Your data is yours. Clubs own the data they enter — rosters, evaluations, notes, reports, and snapshots. Parents and players (or, for children under 13, the parent on the child’s behalf) own data they upload to a Resume.
To operate the service, you grant PlayerFocus a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, process, transmit, and display the data you submit, solely for the purpose of providing the service to you and the people you’ve authorized.
For data shown on a public Resume, you additionally agree that PlayerFocus may make that data publicly accessible at the Resume URL and to search engines and AI assistants, as described in Section 6.
Our platform is ours. PlayerFocus owns the platform itself — code, content libraries, design, brand, models, and underlying infrastructure. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of those assets to you.
9. Subscriptions, billing, and trials
- Trials — new academies start on a 14-day full-feature trial; no card is required to begin.
- Paid subscriptions — paid plans renew automatically until cancelled. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing cycle.
- Taxes — listed prices are exclusive of applicable sales tax, GST/HST, PST, or VAT. We collect and remit taxes as required.
- Refunds — fees are non-refundable except where required by law or expressly stated otherwise. We may grant a pro-rated credit at our discretion in cases of material outages.
- Price changes — we may change prices on renewal with at least 30 days’ written notice to the billing contact. If you don’t accept the new price, you may cancel before the next renewal.
- Free accounts — Resumes, parent accounts (where the club pays), and verifying coach accounts are free. We may impose reasonable usage limits on free accounts to protect the service.
10. Service availability
We work hard to keep PlayerFocus available and fast, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Scheduled maintenance and occasional outages can and will happen. If the service is materially degraded for a prolonged period and the cause is within our control, we will work with affected clubs on a fair remedy.
11. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PlayerFocus is provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including (without limitation) implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy of data. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, secure against all threats, or available without interruption. PlayerFocus is a development and communication tool, not a substitute for qualified professional advice (medical, legal, educational, or mental health). Coaches, parents, and directors remain solely responsible for the decisions they make about players.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, PlayerFocus and its officers, directors, employees, and agents are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including loss of profits, loss of data, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising under or related to these Terms or the service in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid to us during that 12-month period, or (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless PlayerFocus from any claims, damages, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the service, your unauthorized submission of personal information about another person (including a child), or your violation of applicable law or third-party rights.
14. Takedown / DMCA / content complaints
If you believe content on PlayerFocus — including a public Resume — infringes your copyright, includes unauthorized use of a child’s name or image, contains inaccurate evaluations attributed to you, or otherwise violates your rights, send written notice to legal@playerfocus.ca including:
- The URL of the content in question.
- A description of the content and the right you believe is being violated.
- Your identity and authority to make the complaint (e.g., parent of child, copyright holder, named coach).
- A statement made in good faith that the use is not authorized.
We will review and act on credible complaints promptly — typically by removing the content while we investigate. Counter-notices may be submitted to the same address.
15. Suspension and termination
You may stop using PlayerFocus at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that materially violate these Terms, with reasonable notice except in cases of obvious abuse, security risk, or legal obligation. Upon termination of a club subscription, we follow the retention practices described in our Privacy Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — including ownership, indemnification, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and governing law — survive.
16. Governing law and venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The parties submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect its intellectual property.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change materially affects your rights, we’ll notify clubs and direct-signup users by email at least 14 days before the change takes effect, and update the “Effective” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
18. Miscellaneous
- Force majeure — neither party is liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control.
- Assignment — you may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
- Severability — if any provision is found unenforceable, the remainder of these Terms remains in effect.
- No waiver — failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.
- Entire agreement — these Terms (and any additional written agreement between us and your club) are the entire agreement between us regarding the service.
- Notices — notices to you may be sent to the email associated with your account; notices to us must go to legal@playerfocus.ca.
